Equi-Touch Equine Sports Massage Therapy

Services

I tailor each massage to meet your horse's individual needs resulting in an increased range of motion, balance, and health.

I perform a non-invasive, principle based massage with a holistic and functional approach. Massage can help most horses by loosening fascia (which is connective tissue that surrounds bones and muscles), restoring blood flow, fluid flow, and enabling energy flow from the hindquarters through the body.  Massage can also be used to assist the repairing of damaged muscle fiber, such as contracted tendons, ligament and muscle strains, chronic inflammatory conditions, peripheral nerve injuries, and scar tissue

AVAILABLE SERVICES
Sports Massage
The full body massage focuses on releasing muscle spasms and trigger points, improving range of motion and addressing individual problem areas. Also included are an evaluation and stretches. Follow up exercises may be suggested. 60-75 minutes.
Pre-Event
Help your horse get the extra edge over the competition. The pre event massage is preformed 1-7 days before the event and warms and loosens muscles by increasing blood flow and helps to ease any muscle tension. Increased oxygenation leads to enhanced performance and shorter recuperation time. Once the muscles are warmed up, the forelegs, neck, and hindquarters are stretched. (horse must be a regular client)
25-35 minutes.
Post-Event
During an event, a horse may have pushed muscles to the limit. The post event massage occurs up to 72 hours after the event and loosens muscles and joints preventing accumulated stiffness and soreness by increasing venous flow and removal of toxic waste. Also, recovery is facilitated by reducing build-up of fibrous tissue adhesions. (horse must be a regular client) 25-35 minutes.
Combined Pre and Post Event massage

SHORTENED MASSAGE PROGRAM

A shortened massage program (30-40 minutes) concentrating on any tight areas or areas specific to the discipline being ridden. This program is still a "full body" massage-performing massage on one area will create an imbalance. The aim is to increase circulation (warming up the muscles) and release any tight or problem areas. The program is completed with a series of stretches.

Pre Purchase Exam Massage
You want your horse moving as freely as possible for prospective buyers and the vet check. This massage a few days before the pre-purchase exam could mean an improvement in movement evaluation, flexibility, attitude, and stamina. 60 minutes.

WHEN NOT TO MASSAGE

• High temperature
• Elevated heart beat
• Elevated respiration
• Viral infection
• Skin infection
• Open wounds
• Cancers/tumors (Sarcoids where massage strokes are not applied are not a problem.)
• Fractures/traumas
• Muscle injury – wait 7 to 10 days to work on the horse then work around the area
• Off its food

 ALWAYS  CONSULT YOUR VET?
Always consult your Vet! He/She will know a lot more than I do and massage therapy is never anything else than a therapy that compliments other health care. It can do a lot of good, but is not an answer to every problem.
